Mohamed Salah targeted by pitch invaders during Egypt match; escorted off by men in military uniform

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was escorted from Egypt’s World Cup qualifying match against Sierra Leone on Sunday after a man in military uniform entered the pitch and attacked him.

In the 89th minute of the game, Egypt led 2-0. Video on social media showed a steward wearing a high-visibility yellow jacket rushing onto the pitch and intercepting an intruder who was trying to get closer to where Salah was standing.

Next, we can see staff punching the perpetrator on the ground and removing him from the field at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Center in Painesville, Liberia.

At the same time, at least one other spectator tried to get closer to Salah but was chased away by stadium staff and some of the Egypt striker’s teammates.

In another video on social media, a half-naked Salah can be seen being escorted off the pitch by a man in military uniform, while a number of people tried to take photos with the star.

The 31-year-old Salah didn’t seem to care about what happened and kept a calm expression as he walked out of the stadium.

TiT Sports has contacted the Confederation of African Football, FIFA, the Egyptian Football Association and the Sierra Leone Football Association for comment. However, we have not received any response so far.

Although Salah has yet to publicly comment on the pitch invasion on social media, he posted a photo on Instagram on Monday. The photo shows a young mascot, raising his head slightly as he pays respects to the Egypt international before the game.

The game was also very tight, with Sierra Leone finishing with just nine men after two players were shown red cards.

At that same time, Trezeguet once again helped Egypt to a two-goal victory, continuing their excellent start to the qualifying campaign.

After two games, the team maintains an unbeaten record and ranks first in Group A. They also defeated Djibouti with a score of 6-0 last Thursday.

Salah will now return to Liverpool ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City.

Although TiT Sports contacted Liverpool for comment, no reply has been received so far.
